3D or no 3D? That is the question!

This post is a side note before we get into talking about what projector to shop for.  There is a great debate about whether the market for 3D is going to continue to grow or diminish like the HD DVD’s did. Currently, the film industry is creating more films in 3D and re-releasing past movies in 3D.  An example of re-releasing past movies in 3D is Disney’s Finding Nemo and Paramount Pictures’ Top Gun. Seeing these two films in 3D was amazing. Some people don’t see the point in spending the extra money for a 3D television or projector. If you find yourself spending the extra money at the movie theaters to watch a movie in 3D, then you should consider getting a 3D projector for your theater room.  Technology is only getting better with 3D graphics and special effects.

One great thing to consider is the newest technology offered by some 3D devices of converting normal 2D images into 3D.  This is a new advancement and still has some kinks, but is fun to watch sports with. Watching a football game with the 2D-to-3D converter puts depth on the picture to make the viewer feel that he/she is physically in the stadium watching the game.  It’s hard to describe without showing you, but imagine your house was built inside the football stadium stands near the bottom.  Now, imagine cutting a whole in your wall the size of your screen and watching the game through the hole in the wall. Instead of having players pop out at you, they are correctly displayed in depth as if you are physically there.

If you love 3D but have significant others that don't, there is an option for you. My wife didn't initially like 3D (she's slowly coming around), so I found 3D glasses that allow the viewer to switch a setting on the glasses to view 3D or 2D! Keep that in mind when making the decision on 3D or 2D.

So when doing your research on projectors, make the decision beforehand on whether to get a 3D capable projector or just a normal 2D projector. Yes, the 3D projectors cost a little more, but if 3D is your cup of tea, I recommend getting a projector that is 3D capable.
